Founder & CEO Interview Video

( 02 ) Why this matters

The founder video is the most-watched and most-skipped asset on a B2B website.

When it works, a founder film carries the cold-traffic argument that no landing-page copy can: this is a real human, this is what they have seen, this is why now. When it does not, it feels like a rehearsed press quote and the marketing team quietly removes it at the next site refresh. The difference is almost never camera quality; it is question design and direction.

We come from the journalism side of the camera. Our director runs a 30-question pre-interview by phone, builds a tight question set, and rehearses the first three answers with the founder so the on-camera version is calmer than the dry run. On set we shoot two cinema cameras (Sony FX6 wide, FX3 close, occasionally a third on the interviewer for natural reactions), a Sennheiser MKH 416 boom plus dual Lectrosonics SMV-DBu lavs, and a controlled three-point lighting setup that flatters across age and skin tone — typical key is an Aputure 600d Pro through a 4-foot Light Dome SE at 5600K, with a small RGB Hue tube as a hair separation light.

We engineer for watch-through without relying on stock or generic voiceover. The question set is sequenced for a clear second click, the edit front-loads the strongest answer, and B-roll is shot in parallel so the finished piece keeps visual momentum.

  • 02 / 8

    Multi-camera production

Sony FX6 (wide) and FX3 (tight close-up) on a 50mm and 85mm 1.4 GM. Optional 3rd camera on the interviewer for natural reactions and B-roll inserts.

  • 03 / 8

    Broadcast audio package

Sennheiser MKH 416 boom + dual Lectrosonics SMV-DBu lavs into a Sound Devices MixPre-6 II. 24-bit/48kHz, room tone captured separately, double-system audio synced via Tentacle Sync E timecode.

  • 04 / 8

    Cinema lighting kit

Aputure 600d Pro key through 4-foot Light Dome SE, 300x soft fill, MC RGB tube hair separation, controlled negative fill with V-flats. 4:1 key-to-fill ratio for editorial contrast.

  • 05 / 8

    B-roll second unit

Parallel B-roll team captures office, product, customer-meeting, and detail shots so the edit never cuts to stock. 2–3 hours of coverage on shoot day.

  • 06 / 8

    Edit, color, audio post

DaVinci Resolve 19 color grade against Rec.709, dialogue sweetening in Pro Tools, royalty-cleared score sourced from Musicbed or composed in-house for retainer clients.

  • 07 / 8

    Multi-platform deliverables

Hero film (90–180s), 30s and 15s social cuts, 6s pre-roll, vertical 9:16 cut for LinkedIn and Reels, captioned SRT and burned-in versions, all in ProRes 422 HQ + H.264 web masters.

  • 08 / 8

( 07 ) FAQ

Questions, answered straight.

Don't see your question? Email Signal Visual.

How is this different from your brand-video service?

Founder video is interview-led — the founder is on-camera, the script is the question set, and the cut lives or dies on the answers. Brand video is concept-led — voiceover, B-roll-driven, sometimes scripted-to-camera, often without the founder visible at all. We do both; this page is for clients whose primary asset is the founder herself.

How long should the final video be?

Hero films land best at 90–180 seconds for cold-traffic landing pages and 3–5 minutes for raise/announcement contexts. We always cut down: every project gets the hero film plus 30s, 15s, and 6s cuts plus a vertical 9:16 for LinkedIn and Reels.

What's a realistic timeline?

From kickoff to delivered hero film: 4 weeks for the Single Founder Cut, 6 weeks for the Founder + Customers package, and 8-10 weeks for the Manifesto. Rush turnarounds for funding-announcement timing can be scoped when the review path, interview access, and final deliverables are already clear.

Where do you shoot?

Most often at the founder's own office — visual texture is part of the story, and the founder is most relaxed in their own room. We also shoot in our Tribeca studio when offices aren't visually controllable. For Founder + Customers, we travel to each customer location at cost.

Do you provide on-camera coaching?

Yes, lightly. Our director runs the founder through the first three questions before we hit record so the warm-up nerves burn off the bench. We don't replace media training — we replace the rehearsed tone it usually creates.

Will the video work for paid social?

Yes. Paid-social cuts are scoped into every package — 30s, 15s, 6s, vertical 9:16 with burned-in captions. We supply Meta- and LinkedIn-spec masters and ID-named versions for ad ops to load directly.
